The architect Nora wants to go to Greece with her fiancé, the successful lawyer Tobias Becker. During the holidays in Crete Tobias should also find a link to Nora's children Julia and Ben. A stableboy and his uncle make a winner out of a doomed colt with a split hoof.

Garage owner Harry Stone buys a racehorse, Brownie, from Peggy Lanstone and, according to formula, hires Peggy as the steed's trainer. When the filly finishes a mere second in the Oaks, Harry's snooty fiancee, Muriel, who never liked the setup anyway, disgustedly heads for greener pastures. Harry promptly marries Peggy, and, after an official investigation of the Oaks' results, Brownie gets revenge on the fickle Muriel.

Frankie Reynolds (Frankie Darro' ), youngest member of a family of jockeys, borrows $4.85 (yes, four dollars and eighty-five cents) from his sister Phyllis (Gladys Blake), who is not a jockey, to buy a crippled colt from the stables owned by Clay Harrison (Kane Richmond). He nurses the colt back to health, and in two years has one of the fastest horses in the country.
